So that summer will leave you with unforgettable memories; so that you can once again appreciate how beautiful Lithuania truly is; so that you can give your eyes the chance to rest amid the greenery of the park and the beauty of graceful architecture – spend your summer Sundays delighting in the surrounds of the Šešuolėliai Manor Estate.
Restored to its former glory, and recalling the grand times of the past century, Šešuolėliai Manor Estate will again echo with the sounds of music during Christopher‘s Picnics.
Šešuolėliai Manor Estate is one of the most elaborately ornamented properties in Lithuania. The restored English cottage style manor appears as if it has just been built. The building, which bore the ravages of a Soviet past and the damage of time, has been restored to the finest detail, preserving most of its authentic character visible in the ceiling work, the wall decor, the delicate bas-reliefs, the stucco work and fragments of the authentic parquetry. History has been brought back to life in the manor‘s graceful ornamentation – so familiar, as a bygone day. Petras Povilas Končius, who built the manor, may well appear in the doorway and invite his dear guests inside for a pleasant evening of music...
Let‘s imagine what it would be like if titles of nobility would have been maintained and blue-blooded gentlemen would still be living in their manors – what type of music would be heard within? The same 19th century waltzes that secret lovers would dance to, their mutual firmer grip a surreptitious sign of their feelings? Perhaps they would choose contemporary, yet tasteful, joyful and spirit-lifting music? Perhaps the voices of young men might be heard, breaking out not only in melodic arias, but also in songs from the repertoires of Frank Sinatra or The Beatles… Or maybe they would take great pleasure in dancing the tango to passionate music from Argentina, and embrace guitar music into their rich assortment of acceptable sounds, or happily listen to Russian romances and other playful musical capers?
The Christopher Summer Festival’s series of Christopher’s Picnics concerts invite one and all to feel the air of aristocratic entertainment in the former residence of the Radvila family. Music made the walls of the Šešuolėliai Manor Estate quiver for decades, soaking into the bas-reliefs and hung in suspended pauses amid the park‘s tree branches. The Christopher Summer Festival seeks to bring this music back to life, and there‘s no doubt the results will warm the hearts of all who attend.
