The Vilnius Congress Palace has a new production, Massenet’s opera Werther, which can be defined as an intimate and subtle work based on W. Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Werther. It is a musical tragedy, about a passionate love, great suffering and a young poet’s hopes, which are unfulfilled. This magically attractive chamber opera, it would seem even minimalist in its concept (an opera without a choir!), is seldom staged. This production in Lithuania gives the chance to listen to possibly the country’s two most talented singers on the same stage, Edgaras Montvidas and Liora Grodnikaitė. They studied at London’s Covent Garden opera theatre and have already performed at Europe’s best opera houses.
